Windows (standalone)

The Imagine Learning Windows app includes an auto update feature. Once installed, the app will automatically update each time a new Imagine Learning client is released, eliminating the need to install the app with each release. If you don't want to use the auto update feature, it can be disabled. You can install the new auto updating app over the existing Imagine Learning Windows app.

Some Group Policy configurations may cause the Windows standalone app to not update or uninstall correctly. Consider not enabling the automatic updates option for the Windows app if you are managing application installations through a Group Policy Object (GPO).

Installing on a single device

To install the Windows app on a single device

  1. Click the link below to download the Imagine Learning Windows MSI.

  2. Start the process to install the MSI. The Imagine Learning Setup Wizard guides you through the process.
  3. As part of the process to install the Imagine Learning app, you are asked if you would like to allow automatic updates. Automatic updates are enabled by default. Click Next to continue installing the app with the automatic update feature.
  4. Although the Imagine Learning Windows app has the ability to update automatically each night at 12 a.m., updates only occur when there is a new Imagine Learning release. If the device power is off at the time when updates are scheduled to occur, updates will run the next time the device power is on.


    Click to indicate that updates will be handled manually, then click Next.

  5. Complete the remaining steps to install the app with the Imagine Learning Setup Wizard.
  6. An Imagine Learning icon appears on your desktop. Double-click the icon to launch Imagine Learning.
  7. Enter your server address or Site Code, then click Connect.

    If you don't know your Imagine Learning Server address or Site Code, contact the Imagine Learning administrator for your school or district.

  8. Enter your Imagine Learning account name and password, then click Login.

No-touch network deployment

You can install the Imagine Learning MSI on a network using a command-line interface.

To install the Imagine Learning Windows MSI on a network

  1. Click the link below to download the Imagine Learning Windows MSI.

  2. Complete the process to install the MSI.
  3. Run the Windows Command Prompt as an administrator. From the Windows Start menu, right click on the program and select Run as administrator.
  4. Enter the parameters necessary for your desired configuration from the command line interface, using Microsoft command-line options (see table below for relevant MSI commands) and Imagine Learning parameters.

    If the argument contains any special characters it must be enclosed in quotation marks. All command-line options are case-insensitive.

    MSI command-line options
    /iEnter this parameter, followed by an argument with the path to the Imagine Learning MSI (e.g., "C:\Imagine Learning.msi"), to run the installation with a standard GUI interface.
    /q, /qnEnter either parameter to run a silent installation.

    The default for this parameter is on. Enter off if you don't want to enable automatic updates for the Windows app.

    Standard administrative installation (GUI)

  5. Execute the command.
    Command line return codes
    0xE0010064Returned when an exception occurs and no other error code is specified.
    0xE0010065Invalid MSI identifier.
    0xE0010066Duplicate search signature.
    0xE0010067Duplicate search signature.
    0xE0010068Search signature was not found.
    0xE0010069Command line is invalid.
    0xE001006ACommand file format is invalid (possible unsupported encoding).

Configuring scheduled tasks and viewing logs

After the app is installed, you can check to see if updates are scheduled, change update settings, and view logs for the Imagine Learning Windows app.

To check for updates

  1. From a command-line interface, enter the path to ILUpdater.exe, followed by /checknow.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Imagine Learning>ILUpdater.exe /checknow
  2. A window is displayed containing information about updates.

To configure scheduled tasks

  1. From the Windows Start menu, search for Task Scheduler and open the application.
  2. Click on the Task Scheduler Library folder.
  3. Scroll through the scheduled tasks displayed in the window to see information about the ILUpdater task.
  4. Click on the ILUpdater task to configure settings using Task Scheduler.

To view logs

  1. From the Windows Start menu, search for Event Viewer and open the application.
  2. Click to open the Windows Logs folder.
  3. Click Application and System to view log information related to the Imagine Learning Windows app.

Legacy versions

We recommend that you use the latest version of our app, and that you enable automatic updates if possible. However, we realize that you may have hardware restrictions that prevent you from running the latest Imagine Learning app. The legacy version is available for limited use but we don't recommend installing this app without guidance from Imagine Learning Technical Support.
